Politics and media Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Politics and media - Research Paper Example For effective intersubjectivity, the producer of the message needs to adapt it according to receiversââ¬â¢ interpretive process. On the other hand in order to effectively understand the message, the receiver needs to interpret the message in accordance to its source. Key Challenges to Achieving Intersubjectivity in a Fractured Media Landscape The media landscape is changing. Presently people are shifting from traditional forms of media like newspaper and television to the web , blogs, RSS feeds and social media sites to obtain their news updates. Initially what had been a passive audience has now become active with the help of these non traditional media (Jisun. Et al, 2011). The users are now capable of filtering, sharing and commenting on news. Just like all walks of life, politics too has been greatly influenced by the new media. Since 2008, politicians would not think whether or not to use the new media, but how to incorporate it. President Obama is often cited as one of the k ey candidates who changed the face of political campaigning by utilizing networking sites like MySpace and Facebook. Some even claim that President Obamaââ¬â¢s success in Iowa had a great deal to do with his ability to mobilize young voters through the new media (Perlmutter, 2008, p.160). He was effectively able to achieve intersubjectivity through his campaign by truly understanding the needs of his listeners. The youth generally perceived politics are dirty and didnââ¬â¢t want to get involved, through his campaign President Obama attempted to make politics inspiring and interesting. He also chose the best mediaââ¬âthe social website to aggressively deliver the message. The use of SNS cannot be applied in all instance because according to a survey it was found that the greater the political involvement of a voter, the less likely they were to use SNS for political information. This suggests that although SNS is significant in the US as a political tool for furthering the same thoughts in politics or for campaigns and for acquiring support, other resources also need to be utilized to gain favor of politically active voters. According to the intersubjectivity groundwork set out by Hewes and Planalp, a similar concept was propagated by Hawkins and Daly who proposed that communication depends on knowledge. And in order to have effective communication cognition is mandatory. The producer of the message should be capable of relaying their intent and the receiver of the message must be able to attach cognitive meaning to them (Hawkins & Daly, 1988, p.222). In order to reach a consensual meaning of the message both the parties should have shared meaning and cognitive variables. Selective Reinforcing and Challenge Avoidance As we have established that cognition is vital to intersubjectivity, any lack thereof can result in failure to achieve intersubjectivity. Once the receiver or producer is engaging in selective reinforcement of the messages, they are alter ing the cognition. Through selective exposure, the receiver or producer picks the elements from the message that suits them and filters out the rest of the information. This selective exposure can enable them to intentionally focus their attention towards structural features or physiological characteristicsââ¬â

It needs to work with choreographing of movements and music together by trying out and composing the art piece. Performing can be taken to mean to do, to show, to dance, creating as making, trying out, or composing, while appreciation is the outcome of watching, viewing, talking about and drawing about dance. (Davis 2003) Educators on their part, they can facilitate the students by guiding exploring different ideas of movement such as running and leaping, turning and twisting, moving and stopping suddenly. Children will be able to choose the right movement they would want to include into their dance. Educators may also guide children choosing the instrument they would like to use for the movement using different sounds. For example, the sound of the fast ringing bells can be the movement of running. Another form of art is drawing. Drawing from observation still represents a key component of statutory art education for children aged 5 to 14 years of age. (Jolley 2010 ) Drawing involves imagination and creativity and expression. Drawing helps children to express their thoughts with different kinds of lines and shapes. Observation also plays an important part in drawing. For example, children may observe a stalk of flower or the movements of the grass when the wind blows and draw the expression of what they have observed using different lines. For example, curvy lines, straight lines and zig-zag lines. Once children are allowed to make representational drawings, rather than mere line and shape, they are often directed towards forms of subject matter such as cubes, cones, prisms, and so on, whether copies from pictures of three-dimensional models. (Jolley,2010) Children may also move to a higher level to explore drawing representational drawings with their imagination. Educators may guide children by introducing the drawing of different lines such as horizontal line, vertical line, wavy line and spiral line. Students will then apply what they have learnt in their drawings. Students will also need to be given opportunities to observe the environment around them , space for creativity and imagination. Children are then taught to draw more controlled lines. (Jolley, 2010) Teachers go for PD? It will be beneficial for educators to undergo training attaining higher level certificate may also attend a more intensive and substantial art modules. In this way, it will equip the educators with more knowledge and understanding of art education. Educators will have better skills to guide the students and facilitate the child to explore the choices or methods he could use to express his art piece. School management may also encourage their educators to attend professional development to be equipped with updated skills and pedagogies. Student will not be bored with structured ways of teaching art and lessons are more enjoyable for students to learn. Arts education in the curriculum planning. According to the Ministry Of Education, Singapore, Kindergarten Curriculum Guide (KCG), aesthetics and creative expression is being part of integrated learning in the holistic development of the child. In the school planning, it has to include the childrens experiences in visual arts, music and movement allow children to be expressive, creative and imaginative. (Kindergarten Curriculum Guide, 2008) Therefore, it is essential to plan the schools curriculum according to the framework and arts will not be left out. In the schools curriculum, children are also taught to learn appreciation of visual arts and musical instruments. Children will be given chance to discuss about their own art works such as describing the lines , colours and shapes used. (Kindergarten Curriculum Guide) Children will also be given opportunity to appreciate, learn and explore the different sounds made by the instruments. Conclusion Art is important in young childrens education as it is one of the ways to help children to express themselves through different channels such as dance, drama and visual arts. Children need not to be afraid making mistakes as art promotes creativity, imagination and expressions. It is also essential to have arts education in the school, so as to have educators to guide the students and giving then opportunities to explore different kinds of art such as visual arts, drama and music and movement.

ââ¬ÅBriar Roseââ¬Â by Anne Sexton â⬠Analysis Essay
Anne Sexton completely altered the fairy tale, Briar Rose. The original tale was a straight forward story that can lead the reader to come up with a moral. It was one that also had a happy ending. When Anne Sexton tells us her version of Briar Rose, she immediately begins by giving the reader a view of what Briar Roseââ¬â¢s sleep is like. She tells us of how Briar Rose feels, and gives the reader some what of an introduction to the ways of Briar Rose. After this psychedelic section of a girl, Briar Rose, who keeps ââ¬Å"slipping off into a hypnotistââ¬â¢s tranceâ⬠(lines 4-6), Sexton begins telling the tale. Once Sexton gets into the tale, most of the lines consist of a summary of what truly happens in the fairy tale. Sexton, however, does add several parts that help the reader understand the story from Sextonââ¬â¢s perspective; â⬠The King looked like Munchââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËScream'â⬠(line 43). Line 100 was the most important line in the poem. After finishing her synopsis of the fairy tale with, ââ¬Å"She married the prince and all went wellâ⬠(lines 98-99), she immediately adds ââ¬Å"except for the fear ââ¬â the fear of sleep.â⬠(lines 100-101). After this line, Sexton begins a new stanza on Briar Roseââ¬â¢s future, differing a lot from the fairy taleââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ and they lived happily ever after.â⬠Sexton begins telling the reader how Briar Rose will become an insomniac. She also begins applying some of todayââ¬â¢s modern day medicine to the story, by saying that Briar Rose would be unable to sleep ââ¬Å"â⬠¦without the court chemist mixing her some knock-out dropsâ⬠(lines 106-107). From that point on, Anne Sexton slowly applies her life to the poem, and adds the parts of her like that she has trouble with into her poem. It seems as though she does this almost unconsciously and unintentionally. By line 120, Anne Sexton has completely replaced herself with Briar Rose. She continuously uses I in Briar Roseââ¬â¢s place. Now she has completely applied modern day technology, saying things like ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m all shot up with Novocainâ⬠. She clearly places herself in the novel and tells the reader about her life. She replaces the happy parts of the poem with parts that may have been different in her life. ââ¬Å"Daddy? Thatââ¬â¢s another kind of prison. Its not the prince at all, but my father, drunkenly bent over my bedâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (lines 150-154). This shows that her father may have abused her and may have limited her lifestyle as he was ââ¬Å"circling the abyss like a shark, my father thick upon meâ⬠(lines 155-156). He also may have been an alcoholic. She also shows how once Briar Rose had truly died once she was fifteen, even though she was truly just put into a 100 year sleep. Her life of fear and insomnia was now nearly a reincarnation, or a ââ¬Å"life after deathâ⬠(line 161), of her terrible existence.

The Dawn of World War II and German Invasion
Most scholars agree that Treaty of Versailles with its extremely harsh terms for Germany and Austria-Hungary greatly contributed to the future World War II; but in the end responsibility for the greatest conflict in human history lies on one man: Adolf Hitler. By the end of the 1930s he didnââ¬â¢t even make any pretense of following the terms of the treaty: Germanyââ¬â¢s economy was firmly put on war footing, the country was ablaze with revanchist sentiment, and Hitler enjoyed absolute dictatorial power. Soviet Union was on friendly terms with new Germany, and Western powers, though troubled by the situation, did nothing to enforce the Treaty of Versailles ââ¬â partly because popular opinion was on the side of Germans, who restored their country to its natural position of European power, partly because the memory of war was too fresh, and nobody was eager to repeat it. Britain and France followed the policy of appeasement. When Hitler declared the need for Lebensraum, or living space for German nation, annexed Austria naming it a natural reunification of Germans under one rule, and accused Czechoslovakia of oppressing its large German population in Sudetenland, European leaders led by the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain did everything to meet all his demands. The idea was that after restoring Germany to what he considered its rightful position, Hitler wouldnââ¬â¢t start a new European conflict. It was a mistake. After the Anschluss of Austria and occupation of Sudetenland and other territories in Eastern Europe, Germany signed a Nonaggression Pact with the Soviet Union on August 23, 1939, delineating spheres of influence of both dictatorships in Europe. After that, Hitler was free to do anything he wanted, and a mere week later the World War II began. On September 1 German army, 1.5 million strong, invaded Poland and, despite fierce resistance, soon got upper hand. When the Soviet forces entered Poland from the east it became clear that Polish plan of defense was no longer feasible, and early in October the country was fully occupied and divided between Germany and the USSR. Although France and Great Britain declared war on Germany early on, their aid to beleaguered Poland was extremely limited. What followed is often called the Phoney War ââ¬â Hitler offered Great Britain and France peace on the basis of recognizing German dominance in continental Europe ââ¬â but it finally dawned on European leaders just how much Hitlerââ¬â¢s promises and treaties are actually worth. Up until May of 1940 the hostilities between Germany and other European powers almost ceased. Meanwhile, the USSR got involved in a debacle known as the Winter War. After Finland refused to cede territory, Soviets invaded the country. Joseph Stalin didnââ¬â¢t expect this small and insignificant state to mount any kind of resistance, but was gravely mistaken ââ¬â despite having overwhelming quantitative and technological superiority, the USSR only barely managed to win the war, losing more than 300,000 men and foregoing the intention of installing a puppet Communist government in Finland. World War II was about to enter its major phase.
